When people think of the mini skirt, often they may think ultra short. This is not entirely the case. The style was first introduced in the 1960’s in Europe. Then, it was defined as any skirt with a hemline above the knees. Today, it is known to be much shorter. The introduction of the mini skirt is often given to Mary Quant, a fashion designer in England. Others credit this fashion statement to André Courrèges, a French fashion designer. Both designers claim the invention of this fashion craze, although it is unclear who developed it first. There is no doubt that Courrèges designs changed fashion forever while Quant arguably liberated women’s fashion as the way we know it today. In the United States, the mini skirt didn’t gain nationwide popularity until 1966-1967. Since its introduction, the popularity has grown in exponential numbers. When this fashion trend was first introduced, the hemline could typically be found 4-5 inches above the knee, although it has been reported that in London, the hemline could be found 7-8 inches above the knee. Today, the mini skirt is shorter than ever.As part of a growing trend, many women today are wearing these skirts with leggings or hot pants underneath to compensate for the length. Often, this fashion trend is made with such a short hem, it is necessary to wear another piece of clothing underneath. Many women feel comfortable and look quite stylish wearing the mini skirt in such a fashion. Some claim that the short length coupled with high heel shoes actually makes a woman look taller and thinner. The claim being the shorter length of the mini skirt can make the upper thigh appear elongated, and high heel shoes make the lower part of the leg look longer as well. Wear this with caution however, as some criticize women wearing these shorter skirts that ‘don’t have the legs for them’. Available in a wide array of styles, colors, and fabrics, this item is available in thousands of different styles. From the plain strait style to the pleated look, you can undoubtedly find a mini skirt to suit your particular style. In recent years, metallic fabrics have become hugely popular and are not hard to find. Lame’, the most commonly known of these fabrics provides a unique, appealing and eye catching look to an item that is decades old.For the ultra daring, mini skirts are now available in lengths as short as 3 inches, and at that length, they may not even fully cover a woman’s rear. This ultra version also looks amazing with a pair of knee high boots, but for a less expensive alternative, wear one with a pair of leggings. In today’s fashion, I say layer up, this look is in style and can be very sexy. There is no doubt that the mini skirt is here to stay. While what is being worn with them may have changed throughout the years, the basic concept has not.

A skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped garment that hangs from the waist and covers all or part of the legs.In European culture, skirts are usually considered women’s clothing. However, there are exceptions. The kilt is a traditional men’s garment in Scotland, and some fashion designers, such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, have shown men’s skirts. At its simplest, a skirt can be a draped garment made out of a single piece of material (such as pareos), but most skirts are fitted to the body at the waist and fuller below, with the fullness introduced by means of dart, gores, pleats, or panels. Modern skirts are usually made of light to mid-weight fabrics, such as denim, jersey, worsted, or poplin. Skirts of thin or clingy fabrics are often worn with slips to make the material of the skirt drape better and for modesty. The hemline of skirts can be as high as the upper thigh or as low as the ground, depending on the whims of fashion and the modesty or personal taste of the wearer. Some medieval upper-class women wore skirts over 3 metres in diameter at the bottom. At the other extreme, the miniskirts of the 1960s were minimal garments that may have barely covered the underwear when seated.Costume historians typically use the word “petticoat” to describe skirt-like garments of the 18th century or earlier.

Beginning around 1915, hemlines for daytime dresses left the floor for good. For the next fifty years, fashionable skirts became short (1920s), then long (1930s), then shorter (the War Years with their restrictions on fabric, ), then long (the New Look), then shortest of all during the 1960s, when skirts became as short as possible while avoiding exposure of underwear, which was considered taboo.Since the 1970s and the rise of pants for women as an option for all but the most formal of occasions, no one skirt length has dominated fashion for long, with short and ankle-length styles often appearing side-by-side in fashion magazines and catalogs.

While still in high school, I took some college courses. I would spend half my day in high school and half at the local junior college. Though it was close to 10 years ago, this particular day is etched in my mind. It was Speech Class. I was sitting in my seat waiting for the rest of the students to arrive and for class to get started. Darlene, the most beautiful female student in the class, hands down, walked in. As usual she was dressed in the hottest, hippest of outfits. That day it happened to be a blue mini skirt, a short sleeved white blouse, a sweater, and a simple pair of flats.

She walked to a seat, one row in front of me. Then it happened. As she was placing her books on her desk, her pencils dropped to the ground! A hush fell over those in the immediate vicinity. She stared down at the pencils, frozen in terror. No one moved. No one spoke. It was as if we were all statues, unable to do anything but observe the tragedy unfolding in front of us.

The beautiful girl, the smartly dressed girl, the girl all the guys wanted and all the girls wanted to be, stood there, unable to act, incapable of performing the simplest of tasks. All the guys nearby, just waited and watched, trying to keep themselves from slobbering with anticipation. Her skirt was so mini, I didn’t see how she was going to pick up those pencils on her own. Any move to bend over or reach for the pencils would have her backside waving hello to all the onlookers.

She started to bend over, and stopped. She tried to squat down, keeping her knees together. She couldn’t do it. I could see what this moment was doing to her. Her face turned red, then began to fade to white. Sweat erupted from her brow. Her breathing became shallow and frantic. She was entering the realm of a full-on, panic attack. Her suffering was almost unbearable to watch. She kept trying different approaches, to the utter satisfaction of the hormone-driven guys in the crowd, but she could not reach her pencils without exposing herself to the crowd.

After what felt like hours to us, and an eternity to poor Darlene, a girl sitting two desks away shook herself out of the trance we were all under, and came to the rescue, grabbing the pencils from the floor and placing them on the desk. Darlene was never the same. She was always nervous, carrying the humiliation of that day. For the remainder of that semester, she was different, scared, afraid, missing the vivacious sparkle and confidence she once carried. She never wore a mini-skirt again.

Being a witness to such suffering, anguish, and pain, impacted me deeply. I couldn’t look at, or even consider wearing a mini skirt. I was convinced it would only result in agony. Then one day, many years later, two very stubborn and determined friends made me face and overcome my mini-skirt-aphobia. My friends convinced me that Darlene could have easily avoided the pain and misery she was flooded by that day in Speech class. They showed me that miniskirts are fabulous pieces of clothing for those who have the right techniques and tools. They don’t have to be the cause of ultimate suffering if you know how to wear one.

Of course, I didn’t wear my mini-skirt out in public until I had mastered two skills – sitting down without giving a show, and picking up things (like pencils) from the ground without flashing my backside. I have come a long way since that day in Speech class. I am a mini-skirt pro now, with years of agony-free experience under my belt.

I think of poor Darlene every now and then and can’t help but pity the poor girl. Had she only treated the mini skirt with the proper respect, everything could have been so different for her. If only she would have mastered the skills of the mini-skirt before sauntering into class that day, all that trauma could have been avoided. Miniskirts are not to be taken for granted. On the hips of the inexperienced or untrained, they can be truly dangerous pieces of clothing, setting the wearer up for disaster.

I have never undervalued wrap skirt. Whatever other heresies it may have had, however it may have insisted that the more a woman dresses up, the more she knows of make up, the higher her fashion sense is elevated, the more interesting she will be, not only for an hour, but as a companion for life. It is never said that she is less attractive when dressed in a casual wrap skirt but with taste, style and according to the season. Love itself could scarcely be expected to survive a winter hat worn after Easter. And the philosophy of this is not on the surface or applicable to women only. In this the highest of created things are under a law having a much wider application.

A novel writer works on fiction, which have become an absolute necessity in the modern world. They have commonly a summer and winter apparel. Skirts had always been the favorite and safe choice for the novelists when it comes to the fashion of their female characters.

It is realized how much depends upon the clothes that are worn by the characters in the novels –skirts put on not only to exhibit the inner life of the characters, but to please the readers who are to associate with them. A wrap skirt gives the lady, reading the fiction, a chance to create her own fashion in reality out of the fiction. It is true that there are novels that almost do away with the necessity of fashion magazines and fashion plates in the family, so faithful are they in the latest millinery details, and so fully do they satisfy the longing of all of us to know what is chic for the moment.

It is pretty well understood, also, that women, and even men, are made to exhibit the deepest passions and the tenderest emotions in the crises of their lives by the clothes

they put on. How the woman in such a crisis hesitates before her wardrobe, and at last chooses just what will express her innermost feeling! Does she dress for her lover as she dresses to receive her lawyer who has come to inform her that she is living beyond her income? She chooses a wrap skirt which goes with all moods.

It is true that novels and fashion magazines mold the taste of women and to a great extent influence their thinking and adapting to the latest fashion. But skirts had always been there through ages and survived all tests of time. Wrap skirt is the ever green version of skirt and had always been the favorite. It is also known as the magic skirt. Novels & Fashion magazines could not really contribute much to its design or popularity, so it was left on its own or may be neglected all through. Fashion Designers did not have much to do with the wrap skirt because it is the simplest apparel a woman could ever imagine and she can do wonders with it. The control is in the hands of the woman wearing it and not to the designer. The woman finds a link between her fiction and reality and creates her own style. The sense of freedom – breaking away from the dictatorship of the fashion magazines, fashion designers. The woman takes control. Would not the lover be spared time and pain if he knew, as the novelist knows, whether the young lady is dressing for a rejection or an acceptance?

What is the bedroom? A bedroom is a place of retreat: one’s private space to read, sleep, love or dream. However, hoe to make the room more relax able? A bedroom should reflect the tastes or the styles of the owner. How to create a style, there are some tips.

Upon entering the room, the occupant should be welcomed by a comfortable bed dressed in attractive linens. Fluffy pillows, comfortable sheets and a cozy bedspread are essential, but a stylish bed skirt is an important finishing touch.

Bed skirts are available for any budget and are sold everywhere from discount superstores to pricey department stores. Before purchasing a bed skirt, measure the distance from the top of the box spring to the floor to find the length of drop needed.

Bed skirts come in different fabrics; they can be purchased in neutral colors. Some manufacturers create entire bedding sets, so that bed skirts, comforters, accent pillows and even curtains coordinate.

There are three most popular bed skirts: ruffled, box pleated and straight. The fabric of a ruffled skirt is gathered at the top, making the skirt appear fuller. A box pleated skirt features pleats several inches wide, all around the skirt. A straight skirt falls right from the panel to the floor. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for washing and caring for bed linens. While many bed skirts are machine washable, some prefer to have pleated skirts professionally dry-cleaned and pressed to avoid ironing all those pleats by hand.

While usually not the most eye-catching element of a bedroom, a bed skirt with a coordinating color and texture can add to the overall harmony of the room, helping to create a peaceful refuge for the occupant. Therefore it is a hard job to decorate a bedroom to have a good enjoyment.

One way that 50\’s outfits can be worn year round is for girl\’s play. My daughter\’s friend showed her a Red poodle skirt they owned that had a little poodle on it. They have another one that is pink. My daughter giddily declares that the skirt flies up when you twirl in it. Her friends were in a dance class and may have worn it there. In any case, they regularly dress up in the skirts to dance and pretend.

What are the most popular colors of poodle skirts? From what I can tell by what people are looking for on the Internet, I would say that pink is the most popular color of poodle skirt, followed by red. What material are poodle skirts made of? They are made of heavy material. Poodle skirts today are usually made of 100% fine acrylic felt or non-woven quality felt. Back in the 50\’s, who knows what they were made of? If they had felt back then, then that’s what they most likely made them with.

Does anyone still have original poodle skirts from the 1950s? That is one question I\’d be interested to know the answer to. You can make your own poodle skirts, because they are not complicated at all. Or, of course, you can purchase them off the Internet from dozens of online stores. One poodle skirt fan said this after receiving hers from an online order:

Very simply, you can store a lot of your things underneath your bed, and they are not visible with bed skirts. Without bed skirts, absolutely anybody can come in and see everything you have underneath your bed.
Keep in mind that when looking for the right bed skirts, there are basically two styles to choose from; pleated or ruffled. A pleated model is generally made from flat panels of fabric, and a ruffled model is a continuous piece of fabric that goes around the two sides the bed. This is sewn with a ruffled pattern at the top of the bed skirt.
Of course, for you going to buy the best for you want, in addition to knowing what kind of style skirt you want, you need to know the measurements to purchase it in. Very simply, if you’re getting a deck model, you have to be very precise and measurement, because they certainly are not adjustable.
You don’t have to be as precise for an elastic bed skirt, as they are stretchable, but you still should know the general dimensions. With a panel Bed skirt, you don’t have to be so exact, because they are more adjustable than the others. For this simply measure the height of the floor to the top of the box spring for your bed, and if you are using a pleated skirt, then subtract 1 inch from the height.

There was once a lady, sober in mind and sedate in manner, whose plain dress exactly represented her desire to be inconspicuous, to do good, to improve every day of her life in actions that should benefit her kind. She was a serious person, and she had a distaste for the gay society which was mainly a flutter of ribbons and talk and pretty faces; and when she meditated, as she did in her spare moments, her heart was sore over the frivolity of life and the emptiness of fashion. She longed to make the world better, and without any priggishness she set it an example of simplicity and sobriety, of cheerful acquiescence in plainness and inconspicuousness.

One day–it was in the autumn–this lady had occasion to buy a   new skirt . From a great number offered to her she selected a bright colored one with floral prints. It did not match with the rest of her apparel; it did not fit her apparent character.  What impulse led to this selection she could not explain. She was not tired of being good, but something in the texture of the skirt and the color pleased her. If it were a temptation, she did not intend to yield to it, but she thought she would take the skirt home and try it. Perhaps her nature felt the need of a little warmth. The skirt pleased her still more when she got it home and put it on and surveyed herself in the mirror. Indeed, there was a new expression in her face that corresponded to the skirt. She looked at it. There was something almost humanly winning and temptatious in it. In short, she kept it, and when she wore it abroad she was not conscious of its incongruity to herself, but of the incongruity of the rest of her apparel to the skirt, which seemed to have a sort of intelligence of its own, at least a power of changing and conforming things to itself. By degrees one article after another in the lady’s wardrobe was laid aside, and another substituted for it that answered to the demanding spirit of the skirt. In a little while this plain lady was not plain any more, but most gorgeously dressed, and possessed with the desire to be in the height of the fashion.

But this was not all. Her disposition, her ideas, her whole life, was changed. She did not any more think of going about doing good, but of amusing herself. She read nothing but stories in paper covers. In place of being sedate and sober-minded, she was frivolous to excess; she spent most of her time with women who liked to “frivol.” She kept Lent in the most expensive way, so as to make the impression upon everybody that she was better than the extremest kind of Lent. From liking the sedatest company she passed to liking the gayest society and the most fashionable method of getting rid of her time. Nothing whatever had happened to her, and she is now an ornament to society.

This story is not an invention; it is a leaf out of life. If this lady that autumn day had bought a plain skirt she would have continued on in her humble, sensible way of living. Clearly it was the skirt that made the woman, and not the woman the skirt. She had no preconception of it; it simply happened to her, like any accident–as if she had fallen and sprained her ankle. Some people may say that she had in her a concealed propensity for frivolity; but the skirt cannot escape the moral responsibility of calling it out if it really existed. The power of things to change and create character is well attested.

Men live up to or live down to their clothes, which have a great moral influence on manner, and even on conduct. There was a man run down almost to vagabondage, owing to his increasingly shabby clothing, and he was only saved from becoming a moral and physical wreck by a remnant of good-breeding in him that kept his worn boots well polished. In time his boots brought up the rest of his apparel and set him on his feet again. Then there is the well-known example of the honest clerk on a small salary who was ruined by the gift of a repeating watch–an expensive timepiece that required at least ten thousand a year to sustain it: he is now in Canada.

Sometimes the influence of Things is good and sometimes it is bad. We need a philosophy that shall tell us why it is one or the other, and fix the responsibility where it belongs. It does no good, as people always find out by reflex action, to kick an inanimate thing that has offended, to smash a perverse watch with a hammer, to break a rocking-chair that has a habit of tipping over backward. If Things are not actually malicious, they seem to have a power of revenging themselves. We ought to try to understand them better, and to be more aware of what they can do to us. If the lady who bought the skirt could have known the hidden nature of it, could have had a vision of herself as she was transformed by it, she would as soon have taken a viper into her bosom as have tied the skirt around her waist. Her whole previous life, her feeling of the moment, show that it was not vanity that changed her, but the inconsiderate association with a Thing that happened to strike her fancy, and which seemed innocent. But no Thing is really powerless for good or evil.

I will still bet on the Silk Wrap Skirt. This is not a wager, but only a strong expression of opinion. The wrap skirt will win. I am talking about Multi Wear Wrap Skirts – Reversible – 2 Layered – 100 ways to wear 1 wrap skirt.

To all appearances, this is the age of the wrap skirts. This magic wrap skirt could be, daily expanding and varying to suit the whim of fashion, no one can tell. It may be made to bloom like the cabbage; it may spread out like an umbrella–it would always be casual enough or showy enough to suit us. Undeniably a wrap skirt, especially the multi wear, is very effective, especially in terms of gorgeous color and imaginative design. In its innumerable shades and enlarging proportions, it is a triumph of the designer. It goes along with all the conceits and fantastic unrest of the modern fashion.

Indeed, but for the discovery of the capacities of the wrap skirt, modern life would have experienced a fatal hitch in its development. It helps out our age of plush with a flame of color. There is nothing shamefaced or retiring about it, and it already takes all provinces for its own. One would be only half-complete- fashionably–without a wrap skirt. A woman wears a wrap skirt as a token of her freedom and the power to create her own style. Young girls who used to express their timid desire with the violet dress, or sequined spaghetti strap, now seeks to bring their emotions to light by the help of the wrap skirts. And it can express every shade of feeling, from the rich yellow of prosperous wooing to the brick-colored weariness of life. It is a little stringy for a designer, but it fills the modern-trained eye as no other dress can fill it.

Is her life set to the note of display, of color and show, with little sweetness, or to that retiring modesty which needs a little encouragement before it fully reveals its beauty? If one were to pass her life in moving in a 1500 CC car from one hotel to another, a wrap skirt around her waist seems to be a good symbol of her life. There are aged people who can remember that they used to choose their dresses, as to their color, fabric, texture and specific cuts and shapes to express the delicate shades of advancing passion and of devotion. What can one do with this new favorite? Is not a Wrap Skirt a sort of take-it-or-leave-it declaration, boldly and showily made, an offer without discrimination, a tenderness without romance?

Are we exaggerating this astonishing rise, development, and spread of the Wrap Skirts? As a fashion it is not so extraordinary as the hoop-skirt, or as the neck ruff, which is again rising as a background to the lovely head. But the remarkable thing about it is that heretofore in all nations and times, and in all changes of fashion, the wrap skirt has held its own stable position as the perfect casual and as the finest expression of sentiment – freedom – breaking away from the fashion rules. The Wrap Skirt is neither an enemy of the trousers nor the dresses. Neither is it to any other gorgeous production of any designer. But it has an old-fashioned love for the modest and unobtrusive virtues, and an abiding faith that they will win over the strained and strident displays of fashion.
